A “carinderia”-style restaurant in Dallas, Texas featuring homegrown Pinoy dishes is now becoming the talk of the town among OFWs and Americans as well.

Seemingly like a homegrown carinderia, the Old Rooster Creek Filipino/Asian American BBQ, commonly known as ORC BBQ, is fast becoming a food destination in Dallas, Texas.

This humble eatery is owned by American-Japanese Allen Cook and his Filipina wife Josephine.

They opened the restaurant in 2017 to introduce authentic Filipino dishes that are mastered by Josephine.

“I cooked the food like we are having a gathering or fiesta. The ambiance of our place is like home, it’s like they are in the Philippines for a couple of hours. That’s what they all say,” Josephine said.

“We brought the Philippines to Texas along with some old traditions,” Allen added.

One peculiarity ORC BBQ is that it’s only open on weekends, and they have a rotating menu.

Included in the roster are caldereta, menudo, pancit, kare-kare, and lumpia.

On the side, they also serve grilled treats like stuffed squid, fish, “Betamax” (solid pig blood) and “Adidas” (chicken feet).

There is nothing more Filipino than eating tapsilog for breakfast, and for ORC BBQ, it is one of the most-ordered meals.

Of course, other childhood merienda favorites like banana-cue, turon, halo-halo, ginataang bilo-bilo, and pichi-pichi are also available here.

Another specialty is Allen’s slow-roasted lechon. “We cook them in the old traditional way and served in an old-style setting in our small roadside place,” Allen says.

“The Americans enjoy it. It is something new and different style of food. It reminds them of the time they visited the Philippines.”

And what makes a Filipino party more alive? Karaoke. Customers can enjoy karaoke whenever they want, too!

OFWs can get a taste of home at ORC BBQ and be surrounded by fellow Filipinos where camaraderie and community are the norms.
