Many do not like the idea of electing actors and broadcasters to the Senate. They believe that these candidates do not have the qualifications that will make them effective Senators. They will just waste taxpayers’ money, so they say.

But a case can be made in favor of this type of candidate, such as Bong Revilla, the Tulfo brothers, Lito Lapid, Willie Revillame, and Tito Sotto. These candidates are in the top 12 of the 66 candidates for Senator.

They can mobilize their fans to provide views on pending bills and to support certain legislation they are pushing, thus improving the way people follow the law. This enables the government to get people to take part in debates in the crafting of laws and to abide by the law favored by their idols.

They add glamor and glitz to an otherwise boring political system called democracy. People need to be entertained occasionally. They love to see their idols create dramatic scenes while serving their terms, including the opportunity to see them on the Senate floor, even if they do not say anything meaningful. These fans do not have to wait for their next movie or tv show.

They benefit tremendously from name recognition and do not have to spend much to secure their election. This lowers campaign-related expenditures and reduces the inflationary effects of election spending.

For actors and broadcasters who have been in the Senate and are on the verge of returning, we can say they have experience in legislation and thereby deserve another term. They can build on experience and deal with legislative issues faster. If they barely had any law with their names as main sponsor, they will have six years in their next term to do a better job.

In any case, whatever be their existing skills, they have their staff who can delve into

The details of the bills they are thinking of filing and supporting. This means that a candidate does not have to be a lawyer to perform effectively in the Senate. In any case, the budget of a Senator’s Office also includes funding for expert advisers and researchers.

Therefore, there are many reasons why I am inclined to vote for actors and broadcasters.
