I came across this article in Bilyonaryo.com which said that the Philippines and three other Southeast Asian countries have been recognized as top choices for expatriates based on the survey of the InterNations’ Expat Insider.

Factors like English proficiency of Filipinos, the low cost of living (compared to their home countries) and the smiling faces and accommodating spirit of Filipinos encourage them to stay not just for the duration of their business here but even upon retirement. The expats usually find their soul mates and long-time partners here.

But more than anything else, ours is a weak currency compared to other global currencies and they get more value for their currencies if spent here.

We also have world-class beaches and hotels and resorts, which are marketed and promoted mostly online because of the high cost of doing physical roadshows to promote them.

And no doubt, our cuisine are as diverse as the culinary traditions and palates of our chefs and cooks that fuse local international cuisine, making the expats still feel at home even while in another country.

The Philippines has been rated third in East of Settling In, demonstrating its welcoming and accommodating environment for newcomers, reported Bilyonaryo.

Low cost of living, easy setting in: Philippines among top expat destinations in 2024 survey

A significant portion of expatriates in the Philippines reported a high level of satisfaction with their financial situation. Nearly two-thirds of expats indicated that their income exceeds their needs, reflecting the country’s relatively low cost of living.

Housing costs in the Philippines are also affordable, contributing to the overall attractiveness of the country for expatriates. Over 60 percent of expats found it easy to secure accommodation, surpassing the global average, the story noted.

Combined with the Philippines’ vibrant culture, friendly locals, and beautiful landscapes, make it a compelling choice for those seeking a new home abroad.

Among the top seven places where expats prefer to stay are: Manila, Cebu, Davao, Makati, Subic, Dumaguete City and Palawan, which are charming in their own ways,

The survey said some affordable cities that offer great value for money are Cavite City, Cebu City, Iloilo City, Dumaguete City, and Angeles City. The cities offer affordable housing, utilities, and transportation costs, making them perfect for those on a tight budget.

According to NomadList, the cost of living for an expat is more than for a local: Cost of living for expat: $1,460. Cost of living for local is $1,050. Housing: $943 for a studio apartment as of June 10 this year.

From the Most Affordable Cities

  • The Philippines offers an abundance of natural wonders and friendly people.
  • The cost of living is relatively low compared to other countries.
  • Things to consider when moving to the Philippines include weather, public transportation, and budget.

One of the best things about living in the Philippines is that you can enjoy a low cost of living compared to other countries. With the beautiful beaches, scenic landscapes, and friendly people, it’s no wonder why more and more people are choosing the Philippines as their next home. This article will highlight some of the most affordable cities in the Philippines to help you make an informed decision, the survey stressed.

The Philippines may not always be top of mind when considering a place to live, but it’s worth considering. With over 7,000 islands, the Philippines has abundant stunning landscapes and natural wonders that provide endless opportunities for exploration and adventure. But it’s not just the beautiful scenery that makes this country a great place to call home.

Filipinos are known for their warm hospitality and welcoming culture, making it easy to make new friends and feel at home. The Philippines may be the perfect choice if you’re looking for a relaxed, laid-back lifestyle with plenty of sunshine, tasty cuisine, and friendly people.

Before deciding on a place to settle it is worth looking at the humid and hot weather during the dry season, being in the tropics.

Also, public transportation is not as efficient and reliable as those in other countries so expats would do better owning a car. But then they should also know that traffic is horrible.

And just like the Philippines with its weak currency, Japan’s weak yen has also encouraged more travelers to go there, which is why Japan is experiencing record visitor numbers these days.
