This November, a new cinema experience awaits moviegoers – at least the upscale cinema fans – at the Uptown Bonifacio, the enclave of rich and influential people with luxurious seats and beds to provide viewing comfort, and perhaps even complete rest.
This novel approach to cinema experience is made possible by the partnership of Megaworld Cinemas (the country’s pioneer of class-leading Ultra Cinemas) and Tempur – makers of mattresses, pillows from Virginia and New Mexico.
The brand-new theater is designed to raise the movie experience with topnotch seats and seating configuration comparable with first-class airplane cabin allowing moviegoers to sit at ease or lie down comfortably in premium Tempur beds and mattresses while watching their favorite blockbusters on the big screen.
The Uptown Tempur Cinema is also equipped with Dolby Atmos for superior sound technology and immersive experience.
This innovation will certainly replicate your movie binging at home – in the comforts of your air-conditioned bedroom while watching Netflix or Disney Plus movies that you have missed, and for free.
Megaworld told PhilSTAR L!fe that the cinema has a total of 32 beds or a total capacity of 64 people per movie.
The tickets would cost P1,000, but it comes with complimentary popcorn and drinks.
My Take
It would be a good thing if such cinema innovation would attract mostly families to further their bonding time. But what if it does the opposite– encourage trysting – especially from infidel couples – and result in a motel-like operation? Maybe, I am just overthinking. But what if this exact thing happens?
As it is the country is faced with zooming teenage pregnancies and a high rate of fetuses being abandoned or thrown in garbage cans and other receptacles, all because the media has been loose in hyping sexuality, sensuality and commercialism of sexes.
Even in the old traditional movie houses – with lounge chairs that are separated only by arm rests – couples go necking and petting, and who knows what else happens in the dark corners of these places, so much more with a premium bed like this.
Perhaps, the cinema owners must limit entries and exits only while the movies last; remove the ads that prolong the stay inside moviehouses, and assign roving people with flashlights to ensure that the moviehouse is not converted into a motel.
