On August 26, 2024, President Bongbong Marcos expressed, in so many words, giving tribute to our country’s National Heroes for their sacrifices in bringing about our freedom as a sovereign nation. And he advised the Filipino people to follow their example of serving the country with their heroic deeds. But how sincerely did he utter those words?

Like all government officials, especially those elected by the Filipino voters, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr has, in so many ways, failed to put congruence between his words and actions. He took his oath as President of the Philippines to observe, promote and implement the Constitution and the Rule of Law. Notwithstanding his election as fraudulent as claimed by the TNT, other IT experts and many concerned citizens, given that COMELEC has not satisfactorily answered until today the queries about apparent discrepancies in its handling with Smartmatic of the May 9, 2022 elections, he has been holding great political and economic power over the Filipino people.

That he was installed as President, and currently holding the power of administration over the country, the people has expected him to fulfill his mandate of serving the people. His priorities as head-of-state, with his partner VP Sara Duterte, should have been from day one, among other important pro-people services – providing jobs for the millions of Filipinos still unemployed, fair and decent wages for the laborers, farmers, IPs, nurses, other health workers, teachers and other lowly employees. A robust economy is key to a progressive nation.

Moreover, for the past more than two years, his words, likewise those of his VP, have not matched their actions. So far, they have not stamped out, or at least reduced the massive corruption committed and still being committed by his allies in Congress, in his Cabinet, and in the regions, provinces, cities and towns. What has this leader-partnership done about “giving justice to every Filipino,” especially to the families of the victims of EJKs and red-tagging by the NTF-ELCAC? It looks like his fellow dynastic government officials nationwide has simply followed his lead as president as well as that of VP Sara Duterte in making sound-bites, and forgetting that they have to “WALK their TALKS” as public servants.

When, indeed, will the Filipino people also see an improved education system for the children and youth? When will a health system that has adequate funds truly benefit the people, especially in the face of another treacherous health issue, like what has been termed “MPOX?”

In a nutshell, the people do not want government officials who speak with forked tongues. They simply want their leaders in government to be HONEST in their words, and more importantly, in their actions, as they have been mandated to serve the people and to work for a peaceful and progressive Philippines.
