EX-BOC officer Jimmy Guban said, in a congressional joint hearing, as reported in the Inquirer, “that the real ‘owners’ of an P11-billion drug shipment in 2018 were former President Rodrigo Duterte’s son, son-in-law and Chinese economic adviser.” Linked to the drug haul, in effect, were Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, Mans Carpio, and Michael Yang.

Latest news going around, particularly in social media, is the cry for impeaching VP Sarah Duterte. This development apparently was triggered by her latest budget proposal to fund her proposed grade school textbook on “Kaibigan” with the tax-money of her countrymen in the amount of P10 million. This is just one speculation, given the highlighted report in the mainstream media about her being questioned by Senator Risa Hontiveros about her book, as a matter of SOP during budget hearings. 

Impeach VP Sara?

For weeks now, the Alice Guo mystery has not abated in the mainstream media. It is still a merry-go-round, as far as the Filipino people are concerned. They wonder how this Marcos-Duterte administration is handling this case of the missing Alice Guo. Dismissed as mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, she has been on the run since she last sat before the Quad Committee hearing in Congress.

Department of Finance (DOF)Secretary Ralph Recto wants to transfer about P90billion of supposedly unused funds of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) to the national government, for funding the government’s unprogrammed appropriations. Objections were raised by various organizations, government officials, budget watchdogs, medical professionals, concerned individuals and lately, the PhilHealth UNION itself, comprising the rank-and-file workers. The common argument, understandably, is that “the money should instead be used to expand the health benefits for Filipinos needing medical care.”

COMPLAINING VP 

An environment activist, Rowena Dasig, 25, has been missing after she was to be released on August 22 from the district jail in Lucena City. Human Rights watchdog, Karapatan, likewise reported that, James Jazmines, a younger brother of a former consultant for the National Democratic Front (NDFP) during the failed peace talks with the Duterte administration was also missing. Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay suspects that IT consultant James Jazmines could be “the latest victim of enforced disappearances when he failed to return home from dinner on August 23 with his cycling buddies at Purok 4, Barangay San Lorenzo in Tabaco City, Albay.”
