As the Feb’86 EDSA People Power Revolution was the end result of fraudulent elections then, the commemoration of its 38th Anniversary by the coalitions of various civil society groups, social movements and patriotic political parties nationwide likewise brought out the role of Comelec with Smartmatic in rigging the May 9, 2022 elections. This in fact has been the call way back in early 2022 of the TNT Trio composed of IT experts former DICT Secretary retired Gen. Eliseo Rio Jr., former Comelec Chairman Gus Lagman and banker and former FINEX President Franklin Ysaac.  Such were strongly re-affirmed by other professional groups of IT experts of Kontra-Daya and other advocacy groups. So far since then, Comelec has not responded favorably to the hard-nosed questions raised by the concerned groups of IT experts. Indeed, these IT experts may be considered as the counterparts of the courageous computer professionals who walked out of their seats in the office of the Comelec in February 1986 to expose the rigging of the elections by the Marcos illegal authoritarian administration and the triumph of the Filipino people in kicking out the Marcos family and ending their brutal martial law regime.

Holy Week for us Filipinos is a special solemn 7 days of “Prayers, Fasting and Alms-giving.” It is some sort of official public announcement to Filipinos that this week is the most appropriate time for self-reflection on how they have conducted themselves as Christ-followers, and how they can comply more honestly with Christ’s commission of “serving the people.” Supposedly foremost in their minds at this period of the year is the question directed at themselves: “What have I done to personally carry out God’s mandate of “Love of God and Love of Neighbor,” and accordingly conduct myself henceforth.

Holy Week for Public Officials

Command Responsibility in the government bureaucracy simply means that any action taken by the subordinate was a direct order from his/her superior. And he/she has to follow it or else he/she may suffer a dismissal or some form of penalty. He/she has, therefore, a choice to follow the superior’s order or not. As a general rule, legitimate orders are expected from superiors in the government bureaucracy, for efficient and good governance.

He was courageous legal eagle, servant-lawyer to the poor and to the critic-fighters of the brutal Martial Law regime of Dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sr, staunch defender of human rights, member of the Magnificent 12 Senators who voted for the removal of American military bases in the Philippines, Rene Saguisag was a humble yet a fearless advocate of truth and justice for every Filipino in his capacity as Senator and public official.
