Latest news going around, particularly in social media, is the cry for impeaching VP Sarah Duterte. This development apparently was triggered by her latest budget proposal to fund her proposed grade school textbook on “Kaibigan” with the tax-money of her countrymen in the amount of P10 million. This is just one speculation, given the highlighted report in the mainstream media about her being questioned by Senator Risa Hontiveros about her book, as a matter of SOP during budget hearings.

TV viewers most likely saw how irked VP Sara was in the face of a simple question, bringing up a comment that the Senator was supposedly doing some kind of “early campaigning”! Her facial expression seemed to say, “The nerve of this legislator questioning me, the Vice-President of the Philippines!” But Senate President Escudero got into the altercation by simply saying that what Senator Risa Hontiveros did was routine in such congress hearings.

This open clash between the Vice President and the Senator left people, especially observers of political real-life dramas at the national level, taking a second look at the track record of VP Sara as a government official. They and legislators themselves probably felt “this arrogant second highest government official of the land deserve to have her background as a public servant scrutinized to protect the integrity of high government officials in their job as real public servants.”

What Has She Accomplished?

The Filipino people must have been reminded of VP Sara’s spending more than P150 million in 11 days; her asking for confidential funds, as the DepEd secretary, in the amount of more million pesos than the budget of the designated intelligence department of the country; her role as Davao City mayor in the EJKs under the “Operation Tokhang” of her father as president, resulting in countless innocent victims killed; her complaining of having only about 400 bodyguards; her dismal record as DepEd secretary where her first act was to remove the important visuals in the classrooms of grade and high school kids; failure to fill up thousands of vacancies for school teachers; thousands of classrooms not constructed; and probably most disappointing, her performance of being unable to raise to international standards the learnings in language, reading, math, science and critical thinking of grade and high school students.

So, the Filipino people should decide on VP Sara Duterte’s impeachment, if ever, and that is, if their representatives in Congress can somehow manage to really feel and think as genuine “Servants of the People.”

Is this possible under a Marcos-Duterte dynastic administration? The people can only hope for the best, for the country’s development as an independent sovereign nation, where justice, peace, freedom and equal opportunities for decent living for all will truly reign.
