COMPLAINING VP

“Submit reports on VP’s secret funds, COA told.” “The powerful House committee on appropriations agreed on Tuesday to subpoena the Commission on Audit’s (COA) reports on the confidential and intelligence funds (CIF) given in 2022 and 2023 to the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and Department of Education (DepEd), both led by Vice President Sara Duterte.” – Inquirer.

The basis for the above was the claim of ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro that the OVP “reportedly spent P125 million in confidential funds within 11 days in 2022.” Meanwhile VP Sara Duterte has reportedly complained about the failed flood control projects of the government. She also brought up the government’s inability to adequately address the healthcare needs of the people.

It looks like VP Sara Duterte, who partnered with her presidential candidate in Bongbong Marcos, has now a lot of adverse comments on how the present administration the past two years has been carrying out its mandate of public service. The irony, however, about her view of the current performance of the Marcos, Jr – Duterte leadership tandem is that she has been a key participant the past more than two years in the planning and programming of the government attempts to solve the country’s varied problems. Such is particularly crystal clear in this administration’s efforts to expedite the country’s economic recovery. She resigned as DepEd Secretary, with no worthwhile or significant impact on raising the standard of the country’s education system, to at least a little bit along the world’s level of expectation among the youth in the field of Math, Science, Reading and Critical Thinking.

The people are sadly disappointed in her performance as holding the second highest public position in the government bureaucracy. Her complaint even about losing a big chunk of her security detail, and her absence in a time of disaster wrought by Typhoon Carina, as she was enjoying a vacation with her family in Germany, simply moved the people to say “What?’ and scratching their hair or whatever is left on their heads. When will the Filipino people be satisfied, if at all, with the VP’s performance to serve the country? When indeed, given that she has practically four more years to be handling such a high position with great responsibility to help uplift the country from being underdeveloped to a status where the millions of poor Filipinos will enjoy decent lives?
