Quotable quotes from a former president: “Bakit ako makikipagpatayan? Wala naman tayong magawa. The problem is to be frank with you, we cannot do anything. Even with itong puro daldal [ni] Justice Carpio writing so many theories about what can you do [about the West Philippine Sea].”
“So kayong mga Pilipino, ibigay mo lahat ng tubig doon sa China. Yung mga isda kunin mo lang lahat.”
A cop out from a head-of-state, indeed, and one can say, “How cowardly, if not more telling -- daring the Filipino people to charge him with treason?”
To speak like so only shows his confidence in the support of his fellow self-serving dynasts in the Senate, House of Representatives and particularly from his allies in the Judicial branch of government, including the Supreme Court.
In any case, the Filipino people are wondering how their public officials, whose mandate as public servants is basically to observe and seriously implement the Philippine Constitution and the Rule of Law.
And more concretely, they’re bound to protect the country from any foreign interference and to preserve the sovereign rights of the country.
Is he branding himself and the Filipinos before the international community as helpless and a "cry baby" and willing to be a puppet or vassal to a bullying China with its imperialist designs?
Justice Carpio’s “theories” are actually the correct and internationally acceptable views that are unassailable in the light of the country’s victory in the Hague’s arbitral ruling under the UNCLOS. Among the more viable approaches to resolve this encroachment by China is by diplomacy, not only by reaching out to our ASEAN neighbors, but also to the United Nations.
The Filipino people are looking forward to being saved from being called “cowards,” and to eschew the words of a coward and traitor. Indeed, the Filipino people hold their heads high (as in our colonial past with Spain, US and Japan) in the face of any aggression from any imperialist country, and will fight to protect their country, despite any cowardly stance from their leaders, including the current ones.
