Top 10 richest Filipinos in 2022 Forbes’ Billionaires list

The world’s billionaires who landed at Forbes 2022 billionaires list included 20 from the Philippines out of a total global billionaire of 2,668 with collective value of $12.7 trillion, or $400 billion less than in 2021. The top billionaire is Tesla’s Elon Musk with networth of $219 billion.

Former Senate President Manuel Villar retained his position as the richest Filipino in the 2022 Forbes’ World’s Billionaires List improving his ranking for the second straight year from 352nd in 2021 to 263rd this year with a networth of $8.3 billion (or P426.99 billion).

He owns property developer, Vista Land & Lifescapes, known from its subdivisions, condos, malls, convenience stores and coffee chains.

Next to Villar is ports tycoon Enrique Razon Jr., with a networth of $6.7 billion (P343.77 billion) ranking 369th in 2022 from the 561st spot last year, Forbes said.

The Philippines has 20 new billionaires in the Forbes’ billionaires’ list for 2022.

Tied at the 1096th spot were SM Group’s Henry Sy Jr. and Megaworld’s Andrew Tan with an estimated net worth of $2.8 billion. The Sy siblings also made it to the list.

Henry Sy Jr. of SM Investments and Andrew Tan of Alliance Global Group came in third at 1096th, with a net worth of $2.8 billion (around P144.06 billion). They were followed by the other Sy siblings Hans and Herbert, who both ranked 1196th worldwide with a net worth at $2.6 billion each (around P133.77 billion).

Next to Hans and Herbert were Harley Sy and sister, Teresita Sy-Cosonat 1292nd spot and networth of $2.4 billion and Elizabeth Sy at 1445th place with networth of $2.1 billion.

San Miguel Corp’s top honcho, Ramon S. Ang placed 1513th place with a networth of $2 billion, followed by JG Summit’s Lance Gokongwei (1514th, $1.6 billion) and Jollibee Food’s Tony Tan Caktiong (2190th, $1.3 billion). Lucio Tan landed 2324th place with a networth of $1.2 billion. Betty Angof Monde Nissin placed tied with Lucio Tan andMaria Grace Uy at 2324th place with networth of $1.2 billion.

Dennis Anthony Uy of Converge landed at 2578th spot with networth of $1 billion.

Tycoon Roberto V. Ongpin—former trade secretary under the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos Sr.—landed at2578th place with networth of $1 billion.

Sunder Genomal and Ramesh Genomal who own Page Industries, licensee of underwear Jockey, landed 2578th place with networth of $1 billion each. Though they are Indian, they had acquired Filipino citizenship.

Overall, Tesla’s Elon Musk topped the list with a net worth of $219 billion.

For 2022, Forbes listed 2,668 billionaires around the world, who have a collective value of $12.7 trillion - $400 billion less than in 2021.

"The most dramatic drops have occurred in Russia, where there are 34 fewer billionaires than last year following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and China, where a government crackdown on tech companies has led to 87 fewer Chinese billionaires on the list," noted Forbes.

Nevertheless, Forbes found more than 1,000 billionaires who are richer than they were a year ago.
