One can never be truly deprived of Art.
Confined in a small cell and cut off from the outside world, they endure the passage of time, longing for liberation from the constraints that imprison them.
One can only imagine the amount of thoughts that occupy their minds during their confinement in the cell.
Through the initiative of the Department of Interior and Local Government
(DILG) in partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology
(BJMP), a platform has been provided for these Persons Deprived of Liberty
(PDL) to experience a sense of freedom, through Arts.
BIDA Painting
"The 'BIDA' Painting, Handicraft-Making, & Songwriting Challenge for Persons Deprived of Liberty" marks the inaugural regional event targeting PDLs, designed to steer them towards a brighter future.
This initiative offers them the chance to showcase their talents and resilience by expressing their transformation through a creative canvas.
Their masterpieces transcend prison walls, touching hearts and souls, and pushing the narrative that creativity knows no bounds.
At the event, creative outputs and products crafted by the PDLs were proudly presented to the public.
Art: Voices Be Heard
Each craft and piece of art represents the hope and trust of individuals that their voices will be heard and represented to the outside world.
These creations serve as a medium, demonstrating their sincerity and desire to lead better and more positive lives.
Winners of the competition among the PDLs were eligible to receive a cash prize totaling P15,000, to be given to their designated beneficiary.
Additionally, these handicrafts were made available for purchase, with BJMP encouraging the public to support the PDLs by browsing and purchasing these items.
