April is Filipino Food Month, anong handa ninyo?

This entire April the country celebrates the rich culinary heritage by enhancing your skills in the kitchen as multiple government agencies offer seminars, films, food events, and more.

Filipino Food Month (FFM) is celebrated every April by virtue of Presidential Proclamation no. 469 signed in 2018. This year’s celebration is themed “Pagkaing Pilipino, Susi sa Pag-unlad at Pagbabago.”

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) will be providing a series of free webinars, which will showcase Philippine culture and identity through local dishes from different parts of the country.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts will launch a series of short films titled Culinary Cinema to showcase “tasteful narratives, culinary practices, and traditions.”

Follow the screening of the films this April 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 and participate in the short film talkbacks on April 6, 13, 20 & 27.

The KainCon: Filipino Food Conference will also be returning this year with the Philippine Culinary Heritage Movement (PCHM) to make the love for local dishes accessible and relatable to the younger generations.

Participate in the online talks between Filipino farmers, culinary historians, chefs, and gastronomic experts from the local food industry to discuss how Filipino food could be innovative.

Finally, look out for the series of FFM events in your localities such as the “Manindahan ‘Ta” street market and the “Kaon Na” rolling karinderia this April 22 and 23 in Capiz.

Both markets will also go to Palawan on April 29 and 30 with a cultural show, symposium, and food fest. While this April 22 and 23, Cagayan de Oro will hold a food expo with cooking demonstrations, film screenings, and exhibits.

The month-long celebration will not be exclusive to the country. Kababayans and Canadians will too be able to enjoy Filipino food with the partnership of several restaurants to offer a special menu of Filipino dishes.
