MANILA – The Tanauan City plant of aircraft parts manufacturer Collins Aerospace has achieved a significant milestone by completing its inaugural cabin seats shipment to Airbus.
Airbus headquarters are located in the southwest region of Occitanie, near the Toulouse-Blagnac Airport.
In Occitanie, more than 28,000 people are Airbus employees, and approximately 4,500 work in such central functions as finance, marketing, engineering, customer support programs, and procurement.
A subsidiary of RTX, the world's leading aerospace and defense company, Collins Aerospace announced the delivery of its Meridian main cabin seats to Airbus last Thursday (14 March 2024).
This marks the debut of Philippine-made Meridian main cabin seats on Airbus' narrow-body fleet, promising a more comfortable and spacious flying experience for passengers.
"Introducing main cabin seating production at our Philippines facility represents a pivotal moment for Collins' seating division," stated Christophe Blanc, Vice President and General Manager for Aircraft Seating at Collins Aerospace in an interview.
Collins Aerospace is one among the more than one hundred (100) industrial locators inside the First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP) accessible through the main and secondary gates along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Sta. Anastacia in Sto Tomas City, Batangas.
Established in 2012, Collins' Philippine plant has primarily focused on manufacturing cabin interior products such as galleys, galley inserts, oxygen equipment, and lavatories.
With the recent addition of cabin seating production, the plant aims to significantly enhance its assembly capacity.
Blanc revealed ambitious plans to triple seating assembly capacity this year, driven by orders from 14 customers worldwide for both original equipment manufacturer line fits and retrofits.
He emphasized the strategic importance of the plant's growth, not only in generating new business and employment opportunities locally but also in providing crucial seating support for customers in the Asia Pacific region.
