WITH Covid-19 still inflicting harm in the country, Biñan City is forced to celebrate its Puto Latik Festival online for the second straight year,

Notwithstanding the final decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on whether the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) will be extended beyond May 14, the organizers of the Puto Latik Festival has already laid out its calendar of activities from May 15 to 23.

Due to the pandemic, majority of the events for this year's festival will be held online.

The activities include a Puto Binan 2.0 Hybrid Cook-off challenge, a TikTok dance contest called "MaglalaTIKTOK," a singing contests, online programs and webinars, and a "virtual Santacruzan."

The Binan Puto Latik Festival was started in 2011 to commemorate the city's best known local delicacy, the Puto Biñan, as well as the Maglalatik traditional dance that originated from Biñan.

Originally held every first week of February, the festivities were moved to May 15 to 23 in 2017 to coincide with the feast day of San Isidro Labrador, the patron of farmers and Biñan City's patron saint.

The festival, which was organized by the Biñan City Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office (BCHATO), is a two-time Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP)-Department of Tourism (DOT) Pearl Awards awardee for Best Tourism Event.

Last year's Puto Latik Festival was also moved online due to the Covid-19 pandemic. (ONT)
