A café in San Pablo City, Laguna is generating attention for offering edible straws that are made from rice and tapioca.

AS part of efforts to reduce plastic waste, a cafe in San Pablo City, Laguna is offering straws that costumers can actually eat.

Netizen Astro Paul shared his experience in using the edible straws from EhKape in San Pablo,

“After po namin mag-purchase, and we are about leave, saka po nagsabi ’yung taga store po na edible ’yung straw po which I found amazing po,” Astro Paul said in a media interview.

EhKape staff said the straws, which are imported from Vietnam, are made from 79 percent rice and 30 percent tapioca.

This is not the first time restaurants in Laguna province have turned into biodegradable products from nature to package their food.

Last year, a pizza house in Pila municipality also became viral after using handmade pizza boxes made of pandan leaves, which are woven by craftmakers in nearby Cavinti town. (ONT/with report from Philippine Star)
