BTS followers have expressed their disappointment in James Corden’s characterization of the BTS’ fandom as “15-year-old ladies” and in the best way that he spoke in regards to the group’s look.
JAMES Corden, the host of American late-night show ‘The Late Late Show With James Corden’, may have picked on the wrong ARMY to make fun of as he gets backlash online.
In his show last Tuesday (September 21), Corden mocked BTS’ address by terming it ‘unusual’, and further generalised ARMY, the fandom of BTS, to a group of ‘15-year-old teenage girls’.
“The United Nations General Assembly kicked off this morning in New York City, and it started with some pretty unusual visitors: BTS were there. BTS visited the UN. Although lots of people are saying why are BTS there, the world leaders have no choice but to take BTS seriously. BTS has one of the largest ARMY on the planet earth. Historic moment. It actually marks the first time that 15 year old girls everywhere found themselves wishing that they were Secretary General António Guterres,” Corden said in his monologue.

BTS performed their latest song ‘Permission to Dance’, pre-recorded in the halls of UN and was showcased to policymakers and politicians from around the world.
The group then returned to New York to attend this year’s session as the special presidential envoy for future generations and culture.
BTS’ fanbase took to Twitter to call out the talk show host for his remarks. “As a teenage girl myself I just want to take a moment to say leave us alone,” wrote one fan. “Stop using my gender and age as a way of mocking other people and what they do.”
Starting Tuesday, followers expressed their disappointment in Corden’s characterization of the fandom as “15-year-old ladies” and in the best way that he spoke in regards to the group’s look.
Viewer scores for “The Late Late Show With James Corden” on Google have dipped since. The show has a 1.4-star score out of 5 on Google’s viewers score abstract, with current one-star evaluations explicitly calling out Corden’s phrases on BTS.
BTS have had a fair share of fan favorite moments at Corden’s show, be it the celebrated Carpool Karaoke with over 88 million views within a year of its release, or a fun game of Hide-and-Seek on the CBS set.
The group has had multiple appearances on the show, making them a late-night favorite.
However, it will be interesting to see how their relationship progresses after this controversy.
