For the first time since reports of a rift between them, Princes Harry and William were seen together at the unveiling of a statue of their mother, the late Princess Diana.

British Princes William and Harry put their alleged differences aside on Thursday when they unveiled a statue of their late mother Princess Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday.

The royal brothers both expressed hope it would be a lasting memorial to her life and legacy.

The brothers, whose falling-out has been the subject of intense media scrutiny, looked relaxed together as they revealed the statue they commissioned in honor of Diana in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace in central London, her former home

Twice a year—on the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death and on her birthday— royal fans gather outside the gates to Kensington Palace.

Many were clad in Union Jack outfits and brandishing banners and flags, and they convene to honor the woman whose story continues to captivate the world.

Today, these “superfans,” as they are often dubbed, were in their usual position outside the royal residence, but with an extra sense of anticipation because just meters away a definitive tribute to Diana was unveiled.

But the artwork has received mixed reviews, with some critics and commentators labelling it “horrible” and questioning the reasoning behind one key feature.

Royal fans and commentators are not as impressed, with many questioning the design and why three anonymous children were included rather than Diana’s sons.

A palace statement says the youngsters “represent the “universality and generational impact of The Princess’ work.”

“The portrait and style of dress was based on the final period of her life as she gained confidence in her role as an ambassador for humanitarian causes and aims to convey her character and compassion.”

Beneath the statue is a plinth engraved with Diana’s name and the date of the unveiling.

William was 15 and Harry 12 when the limousine carrying their mother and her lover Dodi al-Fayed crashed in a tunnel in Paris in 1997, as it sped away from chasing photographers.

Both brothers have spoken of the deep trauma her death caused, and how it affected their mental health for years afterwards.

Almost a quarter of a century since the fatal crash, Diana remains a captivating figure for many.
