“K-Pop: Demon Hunters” follows a world-renowned K-Pop girl group as they balance their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as badass demon hunters.

Sony Pictures Animation announced on its official social media accounts, “Training for the big debut. K-Pop: Demon Hunters is currently in development at Sony Animation.”
The Oscar winning studio describes the film “K-Pop: Demon Hunters” follows a world-renowned K-Pop girl group as they balance their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as badass demon hunters.
Along with the official announcement, Sony also released a concept photo featuring three-girl-group members standing on the stage.
Attention is focused as they are carrying weapons such as long swords, and fans in costumes reminiscent of the modernized hanbok from Black Pink’s music video.
According to Variety, K-Pop: Demon Hunters is an action-adventure animation that will feature a variety of fashion, food, styles, and music, based on K-Pop.
K-Pop: Demon Hunters will be directed by Maggie Kang, who participated in Lego Ninjago Movie, and Chris Appelhans who directed Wish Dragon.
Aron Warner from Shrek will be the producer, while Mingjue Helen Chen from Raya and the Last Dragon and Big Hero 6 will be in charge as a production designer.
Ami Thompson, also from Raya and the Last Dragon, will be participating as the art director.
“I’ve been a fan of K-Pop since the 1990s, and this movie is my love letter to K-Pop and my Korean roots as a Korean. It’s a movie that encompasses and celebrates everything about K-Pop, a movie that I want to see myself as a lifelong fan,” says Maggie Kang, who is a Korean American.
Chris Appelhans said that he always wanted to make a movie about music’s power to unite, give joy, and create a community. “K-Pop demonstrates this the best, and I am honored and excited to be able to showcase it through the lens of animation,” he stated.
There is still no official release date for “K-Pop: Demon Hunters”.(NP)
