Filipina skater Sofia Frank qualifies for 2022 World Junior Figure Skating Championships.
THE Philippines has finally booked its first figure skater for the junior world championships after a long dry spell.
The Filipino-American Sofia Frank officially qualified for the 2022 World Junior Figure Skating Championships as she finished in the upper half of the 15th Santa Claus Cup in Budapest Practice Rink in Hungary.
She ranked 13th out of the 42 skaters after tallying 14.91 points in the competition.
The Santa Claus Cup serves as a qualifying stage for the World Junior Figure skating for next year.
Her technical score of 52.21 points in the free skate was way beyond the minimum technical score of 38 points needed.
Frank then finished in ninth place in the free skate program with 99.94 points, just a few points shy of eighth placer Maria Seniuk of Israel who garnered 99.97 points.
It was her performance of the Wedding Vow by Abel Korzeniowski that resulted in 47.73.
Skating skills and performance received the highest scores on this part with identical scores of 6.08, as the Filipina standout received marks as high as 6.50.
To add to her amazing performance, this is the first time that the Philippines qualified in the Junior World Figure Skating since 2013.
It has been eight years since Alisson Perticheto reached the world tilt in Milan, Italy.
The 16-year old is riding high from the 2021 Finlandia Trophy which she broke several records last October.
She is currently the official holder of the country's best scores for short program, free skate, and total scores.
This was only Frank’s second appearance in the international stage of figure skating, and the total scores were conquered by a significant 8.39 points.
The 2022 World Junior Figure Skating Championships is slated from March 7 to13, 2022 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
