In a special message posted through the page of British Ambassador Daniel Pruce, Prince Charles said the UK is lucky to have thousands of Filipino nurses and medical professionals helping in their pandemic response.

Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and heir to the British throne, praised Filipino health workers for making “a truly remarkable contribut6ion: to the health sector in the United Kingdom.

Calling them “wonderfully selfless people,” the son of Queen Elizabeth II extended his “most heartfelt” gratitude to Filipino health care workers in the United Kingdom, as the two countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties.

In a special message posted through the page of British Ambassador Daniel Pruce, Prince Charles said the UK is lucky to have thousands of Filipino nurses and medical professionals helping in their pandemic response.

“We are more fortunate than we perhaps realize to have many thousands of nurses and other healthcare workers from the Philippines working in the United Kingdom, particularly in the National Health Service,” he said.

Prince Charles added that UK-Philippine ties are now “stronger than ever,” saying that at the time of the “unprecedented challenges” of the pandemic, “those links have provided the foundation for us to work together towards a better future.”

The Philippines and the United Kingdom established formal diplomatic ties on July 4, 1946. Since then, the two administrations have worked relentlessly to strengthen political, economic, cultural, and interpersonal relations.

More than 200,000 Filipinos reside in the United Kingdom, many of whom are already British citizens, and work in a wide range of fields including information technology, engineering, aviation, education, health care, and hospitality.
