Pinoys shine in International Film Festival Manhattan 2021

This year’s virtual The International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) is once again showcasing a diverse group of filmmakers which includes Filipino films and filmmakers.

The International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) has released its Filipino film lineup for spring 2021.

The IFFM this year is again setting up virtual events for May 28 to 30 due to the uncertainty of travel during this pandemic but is expected to still be as vibrant as a live event.

Last year, 22 Filipino films were selected for the festival, with proceeds donated to relief efforts for typhoon victims in the Philippines.

The IFFM is known to feature a diverse group of filmmakers which includes Filipino films and filmmakers.

Feature films include “Guerrero Dos” by Carlo Ortega Cuevas, “In The Name of the Mother” by: Joel Lamangan. Short Films include “Papuri The Tiples de Santo Domingo Concert” by Ray Memje, “To Transfer” by Melver Ritz L. Gomez, “Miss You George” byMark Lucas Moneda, and “Lea’s Secret” by Rico Gutierrez.

Meanwhile, films competing for the Professional Category include “Sarangani” (Tourism Video of Sarangani) by Champ Biala / Michelle Lopez Solon, “Only One Name” (Tourism Video of General Santos City)by Alan Filoteo, “Avodah” (TV Commercial) by Zamantha Morales, “An Extraordinaire Blood” (Tourism Video of Lake Sebu) by Jennifer Tupas, and “Our Motherland” (Tourism Video of by Alan Filoteo.

Kapuso star actress Rita Daniela is also nominated for best actress at the 11th International Film Festival Manhattan in New York for her performance in the movie, “In the Name of the Mother.”

The 2020 film is about a widow who struggles to keep her family united and business running after her husband passed away.

The actress earned the nomination for her performance in the 2020 film “In the Name of the Mother.”

“The fact na napansin ako, na-appreciate nila yung trabaho ko sa pelikula na 'yon, nakakakilig. Kaya ako naiyak kasi parang nakakakilig na nakaka-excite na nakakatuwa,” Rita expressed in an interview after learning about her nomination

Snooky Serna, who starred alongside Rita, is also nominated for the same category. Lamangan, meanwhile, is nominated for Best Director Feature for the same film. (NP)
