DIGITAL artist Bricx Martillo Dumas made it to the top 30 finalists at the COP26 Summit’s art competition DigitalArt4Climate and is now asking for support from countrymen.
His piece titled “Nexus” depicts a hand holding a drink in a plastic bag with a straw, and a cigarette whose smoke forms back into leaves.
“Out of 208 applications received from 58 different countries, my artwork is now one of the top finalists and the ONLY entry from the Philippines/South East Asia,” wrote Dumas on his Facebook page.
The artwork is currently on display in Glasgow, United Kingdom where the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26).
Other finalists range from 10 to 64 years old, their pieces highlighting various environmental problems arising from climate change.
The contest is accepting votes from the public until November 9, at 8 pm (CET).
Each user can only vote once.
“If we combine the transformative power of culture with the transformative power of technology, as we do with the DigitalArt4Climate initiative - we can build a movement of global angels that care for the common good and who care for Mother Earth…" writes Miroslav Polzer, DigitalArt4Climate Founder.
The overall winner will receive 1,500 euros (P86,000~), while three sub-theme winners will take home 500 euros (P28,000~) each.
Winners will be announced on November 11.
DigitalArt4Climate will turn the artworks into digital assets or NFTs, “opening a socio-technological innovation space which helps to unlock extraordinary potential for resource mobilization and climate empowerment.”
“Hoping this will give the Philippines, other developing countries, and island nations affected by climate change a bigger voice in our call for a stronger global climate action,” said Dumas.
