Park Bo-gum discharged early from the Navy, opts for official leave.
SOUTH Korean actor Park Bo-gum has completed mandatory military service on Monday after his application to use his remaining personal and pre-discharge leave was approved.
Bo-gum was scheduled to complete his duty on April 30 but his early exit was approved and the current set up in the military base does not require them to go back to the base on their last day under the coronavirus guidelines.
To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the military now allows soldiers to wrap up their service without returning to their bases if they plan to take their personal leave immediately prior to being discharged.
Petty Officer Second Class Park then left his Navy unit in the Gyeryongdae military headquarters, 160 kilometers south of Seoul, as he started the vacation that would last until his official discharge date on April 30.
In August 2020, the actor enlisted in the military and joined the Navy's band as a piano player, a cultural promotion soldier, after going through tests and interviews.
During his enlistment, Bo Gum hosted multiple events as part of the Navy’s Military Band, like the ‘2020 Republic of Korea Navy Patriotic Concert’ in October 2020, ‘6th West Sea Protection Day Commemoration Ceremony’ in March 2021, ‘Republic of Korea Navy Patriotic Concert’ in June 2021, and more.
Bo-gum also passed the national technical qualification test (barber) practical exam conducted last December at the Naval Education & Training Command in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province,
obtaining his barber license, as he is known to cut and shave his fellow soldiers’ hair in his unit.
First debuting as an actor in 2011 with a supporting role in the thriller film ‘Blind’ , Park has since worked on popular drama series including Reply 1998, Lovers in the Moonlight, Encounter, and Record of Youth in which he was last seen before serving the military.
