CAINTA, Rizal – Parks and other public places should not be just clean and beautiful. It should also be ‘sensitive’ to what Cainta Mayor Elen Nieto aptly referred to as ‘call of nature.’
Speaking on behalf of the mayor, her administrator Atty. Keith Nieto said that they are also in the process of establishing public toilets in parks and open spaces in an effort to rid a nasty habit of urinating in public places.
Nieto in his Facebook post took note of his personal experience in Korea, which according to him has numerous parks where people can relax.
It was in Korea where he claims to have seen public toilets embarking on three elements – urgency as the number of people going to parks usually goes up during the Christmas season, availability of easy to install modular containers and the cost as compared to the conventional construction process.
“Sa isang punta ko sa Korea, hinanap ko ang mga restrooms nila pag umiikot ako sa mga parks. Mga container vans ang nakalagay dun.. malinis at madaling itayo,” part of Nieto’s FB post reads.
He added that the local government has in fact started deploying public restrooms in local government-funded open landscapes.
“Last week, nag start ako maglagay ng restrooms sa mga open landscapes na pinagawa ng One Cainta.. inuna ko ang Karangalan Park,” he further averred.
Asked how much it actually cost, Nieto aptly replied: “Not much. Pinadala ko si Grendizer (LGU-owned earthmoving equipment) para hukayin ang septic tank at siguruhing maging masinop ang paggamit nito… isusunod ko na restrooms sa court naman ng Green Acres.”
Interestingly, the municipal government is known for slowly veering away from bidding local infrastructure projects. “It’s more practical to invest in equipment and hire locals’ para may trabaho din sila.”
