In a now viral video, KUTV reporter Hayley Crombleholme mistakenly asked Utah Jazz star Jordan Clarkson on the street if he watches a lot of Utah's games.
NBA players are one of the most popular athletes in the world. These basketball players are often recognized anywhere they go, especially in the city where their team is from.
But in some rare instances, even their local reporters are not aware of their local players.
Last Saturday, Jordan Clarkson, the Filipino-American shooting guard of the Utah Jazz, went viral after a local news reporter failed to recognize him.
The reporter, KUTV’s Hayley Crombleholme, was searching for reactions to the announcement that all home Jazz games will require proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test.
Crombleholme asked the Utah player if he went to any of the Jazz’s games last season to which Clarkson straight up answered, “Yeah, a lot”.
He even responded like he was a huge fan.
The video went viral due to the amusing back-and-forth between Clarkson and the reporter. Clarkson played along with the questions, even spelling out his name during the interview. This is a standard journalism practice for correct spelling of the interviewee’s name.
Clarkson happened to be shopping around the area when Crombleholme pulled him aside for general questions.
However, it was Clarkson’s teammates, along with the Internet, who enjoyed the straight-laced banter.
Even with the mishap, Clarkson actually did not take a grudge from the embarrassing moment of a local reporter not recognizing her.
He even took to Twitter responding to some fans about the weird interaction. Clarkson took it all in good fun, tweeting, “just happy i spelled my name right,” referring to him spelling his name to the reporter.
Though the reporter might not be a huge basketball fan, it is worth knowing how important Clarkson is to her home team the Utah Jazz.
Clarkson just wrapped up a Sixth Man of the Year campaign, averaging 18.4 points per game with the team that led the National Basketball Association in wins. He is, to say the least, kind-of an important player to the Jazz.
