The museum, in partnership with online meme website 9GAG, celebrates some of the most humorous videos and images that have gone viral over the internet.
In partnership with online platform 9GAG, Hong Kong’s K11 Art Mall launched the world’s first physical meme exhibition, “MEME Museum”, inviting guests to relax and laugh a little.
With memes fast becoming part of how people communicate or express themselves on the internet, the opening of a Meme Museum was expected.
The collaboration museum celebrates some of the most humorous videos and images that have gone viral over the internet in seven themes zones.

Over 100 global and local memes, a variety of merchandise, and the exclusive ‘These memes don’t belong to me’ board game, limited edition Meme Yes!Cards, and temporary tattoos are only some of the things locals can get excited about when visiting the museum.
According to the exhibit profile on K11’s website, they consider the memes more than jokes, and instead are embodiments of how we celebrate and satirize current events.
“It is an internet culture,” they said citing that they are taking the best of it so one can experience the glory and evolution of some of the most humorous jokes of our time, in person.
One of the featured memes, Sarim Akhtar who is known as ‘the disappointed Pakistani fan’, celebrated the opening of the museum over at Twitter.
Not much has been revealed of which memes have made it into the museum but we’re hoping that Rick Astley’s 1987 hit “Never Gonna Give You Up” made the cut.
Astley’s song, which has been used as the Rickroll meme since 2007, has recently surpassed 1 billion plays on YouTube a couple of days ago.
The exhibit is also auctioning off the world’s first meme NFT artwork “In Meme We Love”, featuring a collage of over 100 of the most viral memes.
