Wembley Stadium, one of the biggest and most famous event arenas in the world will be offering British Sign Language services for the Deaf community during events.

IN A move seen to benefit hugely people with disabilities (PWD), more specifically those who have hearing impairment, British Sign Language will now be available in events happening in the Wembley Arena.

London’s music and sports Wembley Stadium has officially announced that for every live concert starting from June 2022, it will be offering sign language services.

The announcement makes Wembley the biggest venue in the United Kingdom to offer British Sign Language (BSL) as a guaranteed service for its attendees at every live event.

The initiative is being hailed as a progressive move towards a more inclusive environment for fans of the live experience.

“We are delighted to be able to offer British Sign Language for our customers at every concert moving forward”, says Paul Smyth, Head Of Event Operations at Wembley Stadium.

“We pride ourselves not only on being an inclusive stadium to be enjoyed by all, but also for leading the way in terms of best practice within the industry,” he added.
“We look forward to hosting our deaf customers at future gigs and hope that they feel the benefit of this vital service at Wembley Stadium”.

The first artist who will experience this service from the Wembley Arena is Ed Sheeran.

He will perform at the venue, when he takes his ‘+ – = ÷ x’ tour there in June for his arena tour.

The sign language service will be provided by Performance Interpreting, the founder of which, Marie Pascall, says: “We are elated at Wembley Stadium’s decision to provide British Sign Language access for deaf BSL customers for every show,” she said.

“This will enable thousands of deaf customers to attend music events on any given date. Wembley continues to be a beacon of best practice and this is a huge step in the right direction. We hope other venues will value their deaf customers and appreciate access in the same way”.
