August is celebrated annually as the National Lung Month, as declared by President Ferdinand Marcos in July of 1978, to promote the healthcare services and a healthy lifestyle, specifically geared towards the respiratory system.
This year, Healthy Pilipinas and the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) invited two prestigious medical professionals on the series of "Konsul Tayo" last Monday, August 14.
Benefits of 'Clichè' Habits
Here, forum host Reb Atadero interacted with Drs. Kristel Jayne Medina and Jubert Benedicto on proper cough etiquette, tackled questions concerning the nature of tuberculosis (TB), and what habits to adopt to avoid or overcome the disease.
Throughout the livestream, both physicians emphasized the importance of maintaining cliche health habits such as eating the right mix of foods, avoiding unhealthy practices like smoking or vaping, and to receive a moderate amount of sunlight when possible.
They also pointed out that these everyday tips are always the best and easiest ways to avoid any health complications as they are the cornerstone to one’s wellbeing.
Routine Consultations
The panelists strongly reminded the audience to come in for consults routinely even when slight problems arise. Examination of a medical personnel will always be useful and sometimes even life-saving as many diseases like TB can be easily treated when caught in its early stages.
It is important to note that many companies nowadays hire physicians to examine employees and offer free consultations.
A routine consultation, physical exam, or any other appointment with doctors to simply check on one’s personal health is critical for longevity and wellbeing.
There is a mindset that one should only come to a clinic when symptoms have become unbearable or inconvenient. There are public hospitals that offer free consults and tests especially on certain infectious diseases.
If you have the time to spare, why hesitate when you can be assured of good health and peace of mind. Good health is priceless.
A wise way to celebrate National Lung Month is to be confident that we are healthy and free of any infectious respiratory disease!
