Prince Andrew, known for his connection with billionaire and alleged sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein was accused of sexual assault.
Virginia Guiffre is holding the royal family member Prince Andrew accountable for his actions 20 years ago.
Nearly two years from the date of the infamous Jeffrey Epstein’s death in prison, one of the most outspoken accusers against the mysterious billionaire has filed a lawsuit against Epstein’s friend, Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, for rape.
Virginia Roberts Giuffre filed a suit in federal court in Manhattan on Monday, claiming that Andrew, the second son of Queen Elizabeth II, sexually abused her when she was 17 years old.
David Boies, Guiffre’s lawyer, confirmed to a UK media outlet that a lawsuit had been filled in the court of Manhattan last August 9. Guiffre claimed that she had been lent out by the late Jeffrey Epstein to the royal prince and several other prominent men when she was just a minor.
Giuffre also alleged in the court documents that she was forced to have sex with the Duke of York on three occasions in London, New York and on Epstein’s Caribbean island.
This lawsuit is a huge body blow for the royal family. No matter what happens next or how the case might proceed, the only guarantee is that the house of Windsor has been plunged into totally uncharted and very dangerous waters. Never has a senior member of the royal family ever been accused of sexual assault before.
In her statement Guiffre said the following, "I am holding Prince Andrew accountable for what he did to me. The powerful and rich are not exempt from being held responsible for their actions. I hope that other victims will see that it is possible not to live in silence and fear, but to reclaim one's life by speaking out and demanding justice."
Giuffre's statement concludes, "I did not come to this decision lightly. As a mother and a wife, my family comes first — and I know that this action will subject me to further attacks by Prince Andrew and his surrogates — but I knew if I did not pursue this action, I would be letting them and victims everywhere down."
A previous statement from Buckingham Palace said: ‘It is emphatically denied that The Duke of York had any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts. Any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation.’
Since the new news of the filing of the lawsuit, both Buckingham Palace and Prince Andrew’s representatives have yet to make a statement.
