NBA Veteran Dwight Howard tapped as an import in the T1 League with the Taoyuan Leopards after failing to secure a spot in an NBA roster this season.
Eight-time NBA All Star Dwight Howard will be heading to Taiwan after 18 seasons in the NBA to play for the Taoyuan Leopards in the T1 League.
Taoyuan dropped the news through social media posts on November 8, Tuesday where Howard personally introduced himself as their new player.
"Taiwan, this is Dwight Howard aka Superman," Howard said in an Instagram post shared by the Taiwanese club. "I am so so excited, and I can't wait to touch down and play for the Taoyuan City Leopards."
"I can't wait to see the fans, eat the food and have the best time ever, and bring the championship for Taoyuan city."
The Taoyuan Leopards in northern Taiwan will formally introduce Howard on Saturday as they are set to hold a press conference before his debut in the league next week.
"We hope he can pass on his experience, concept and skills to younger players in the team and help our team win this year's championship," the team said.
Howard last played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2021-22, his third year with the team after winning a championship in the peak of the pandemic in the 2019-2020 season.
He averaged 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds across 60 games, 27 of them as a starter for LA.
After being a free agent last season, Howard expressed his desire to sign with an NBA team, including a reported interest from the Golden State Warriors, but failed to reach an agreement with any team.
The Leopards are among six teams in the T1 league established last year, the youngest of the island's three professional leagues, which parades numerous players and imports across the US and Europe.
