Displaying their dominance, the Kazakhs badly outclassed their Thai foes in three convincing sets.
Kazakhstan’s Altay Volleyball Club successfully bagged their maiden Asian Volleyball Cup title at the expense of the home team Nakhon Ratchasima QminC Volleyball Club in the final showdown of the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship at Terminal 21 Hall on Thursday.
Defeating them in three straight sets, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20, the Kazakhstan team showed their might and took advantage of their towering heights over the Thais.
Offensive combinations and determination have been regarded as the key points of Altay.
Altay, which finished fourth place four times in a row in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, had already competed in the 2018 Women’s Club World Championship in Shaoxing, China, where they came in a well-earned fifth position out of eight teams that participated.
Leading the way for their first ever title was their captain Sana Anarkulova.
The Altay VC Kazakhstan team will make their second attempt in the Women’s Club World Championship, which is due to take place in Ankara, Turkey from December 15 to 19, 2021.
For the third place match, it was between the other Thailand team Supreme Chonburi and Iran’s Saipa.
In this matchup it was the former three-time Thailand League winners and successive two-time Asian Club champions Supreme Chonburi that came out as the victors with a three straight sets victory 25-21, 25-18, 25-19.
Unfortunately for the two Philippine teams, Team Choco Mucho and Team Rebisco settled for the bottom two places at 6th and 7th spot.
Team Choco Mucho had the chance to rank 5th in the competition but succumbed to Kazakhstan’s Zhetsyu Volleyball Club in straight sets, 25-14, 25-11, 25-23.
Kalei Mau again led the way for Choco Mucho with 12 points.
Overall, Choco Mucho ended with a 1-4 record while Rebisco had a winless record with 0-4.
This wraps up the AVC 2021 quest of the women’s teams.
Next up is the Rebisco Philippines men’s volleyball squad’s turn to take on the competition starting today as the Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship starts at the same venue.
