From the very start, people weren’t familiar with the political biases of Toni Gonzaga until 2016 when Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. ran for the vice-presidency of the Philippines.
Unnoticed but Toni’s husband Paul Soriano—a filmmaker, son of ad and movie director Paul Soriano and grandson of the late actor Nestor de Villa—posted in his Facebook pages campaign slogans which were friendly to Junior.
Fast forward to 2021 at the height of the advent and intention of Bongbong Marcos’ attempt at his presidential bid when Toni got him on her vlog, “Toni Talks,” a clearer picture of Gonzaga as a Marcos supporter was out.
She and her husband were ardent supporters of BBM. Netizens drew out Paul’s Marcos campaign materials from the cyber repository and reposted them. In return, Soriano didn’t squirm about it and instead admitted his political bias.
Toni and Paul are obviously endorsers of the Leyteño candidate, an attribution because Bongbong’s mom Imelda R. Marcos is from Leyte, particularly Tolosa. BBM’s matriarch has a colorful life in the Visayas which is an open book.
Meanwhile, Toni didn’t go unscathed when she publicly declared her fondness for the politicians who cared to close down ABS-CBN, the very station which was denied another twenty five years of congressional franchise by BBM’s senatorial bet Rodante Marcoleta in 2021 and by his dictators dad in 1972.
As expected, Gonzaga was bashed by netizens for her brazen stand on the issue of her presenting and endorsing pols who shutdown ABS-CBN, the network which brought her fame and fortune.
