Recent reports on the delays and non-cooperation from the construction firm, MACbuilders, revealed losses and what appears to be tolerance from the government on this "contractor's" seeming irresponsible and unprofessional work ethic.

Based on records and credibility of the engineering and construction firm, MACbuilders have earned a reputation of bidding on government projects, claiming it and then take months or even years from the target date of completion before actual completion.

Doesn't this lead to the question as to why these kinds of contractors can still secure projects from government agencies such as the Department of Public Works and Highways?

Who benefits more from awarding projects like these?

In the case of the airport project in Tacloban City, why is the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines not yet terminating the contract if indeed it has been violated?

If the contract had been terminated during the first signs of slippage, the airport may have been almost finished, if not totally completed, by today.

In a statement from Atty. Junie Go-Soco, former National Economic and Development Council Regional Director, he was still serving as the RD for Eastern Visayas when the project was proposed and approved. That was some 20 years back. Now a retired official and current private sector representative, he is yet to witness the completion of the plan he first saw as a public official.

Hopefully, the investigation of the Regional Development Council would put an end on the to the contractor who has been manifesting "a spoiled-brat-like behavior" to serve as a lesson for others.

Come to think of it, millions in government funds had been put to waste due to the delay in completing the project.

Given that, will the CAAP be brave enough to terminate the contract that has been lagging for years?
