Southern Leyte Representative Roger Mercado has reportedly replaced former DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, who is running for senator in the 2022 national elections.

SOUTHERN Leyte Representative Roger "Oging" Mercado has been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as the new secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In an undated photo posted on Facebook Wednesday (October 13), Mercado is seen being sworn in by Executive Secretary Salvador Medealdia as the agency's new chief.

Mercado replaced former DPWH secretary Mark Villar, who is now seeking a Senate seat in the 2022 national elections.

As of press time, there is no official statement from the DPWH or the Executive Department regarding the appointment.

Prior to his appointment, Mercado served as vice-chairperson of the House Committee on Public Works and Highways. He also authored 66 measures and co-authored 26 bills at the House of Representatives.
