“The decision made was on the basic and simple premise – to continue to develop Ormoc City to be a premier city in Region 8,” Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez said as he plans to trade places with his wife, Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez.
Ormoc City, Leyte’s “power couple” – Mayor Richard Gomez and his wife, Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez – have announced their plans for the 2022 local elections.
In a Facebook post, the city government of Ormoc said the couple will switch places: Lucy Torres-Gomez will run for mayor, while her husband will aim for Leyte’s 4th congressional district.
The decision was made during a team meeting at the couple’s Carlotta Hills home on Wednesday (September 15).
The announcement was made contrary to the initial statement of the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, which stated that Lucy was being considered in its senatorial line-up.
“The decision made was on the basic and simple premise – to continue to develop Ormoc City to be a premier city in Region 8,” Gomez said of their decision.
Meanwhile, Leo Carmelo Locsin, Sr. has been chosen as Torres-Gomez’s running mate under their local group, Ormoc Development Team (ODT).
Candidates for councilor include Lalaine Marcos, Carmen Jean Torres- Rama, Atty. Milo Quilang, Atty. Burt Pades, Rey Evangelista, Dr. Edmund Kierulf, Perok Rodriguez, Atty. Jasper Lucero, Dr. Gaito Yrastorza, and Roiland Villasencio.
“We chose our candidates according to credentials, track record and with a personality that can make a positive difference for our city,” the mayor added.
