The historic Oldest House in Borongan City, Eastern Samar, was severely damaged by a fire in the early morning of December 27.
Residents of San Francisco St., Baybay 2 were alerted to the flames just after 12:30am.
The fire quickly escalated to a second alarm as locals formed a bucket brigade in an effort to control the blaze.
Fire trucks from multiple bureaus, including BFP Borongan, BFP Sulat, BFP Taft, BFP Maydolong, BFP Balangkayan, and BFP Hernani, responded promptly to the scene.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, the fire was brought under control by approximately 1:30 AM, and it was officially declared extinguished at 2:18 AM.
Preliminary investigation points to faulty wiring as the probable cause of the fire, which reportedly started in a small store located beneath the residential building.
This historic structure, owned by the Bocar family, has stood since 1919, as indicated by the markings seen on its facade.
There were no reported casualties from this unfortunate incident.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the full extent of the damage caused by the fire and the exact circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
