Filipino actors are indeed, world-class artists.

An addition to the honor is Mindanaoan actor Perry Dizon who studied arts at the Mindanao State University in Marawi City.

It is because Perry is a major actor in the Japanese award-winning film, “Drive My Car” which bagged the Best Film (Non-English) at the recently concluded Golden Globe Awards.

Even if the award ceremonies were boycotted by many big foreign stars particularly from Hollywood, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) went on just the same with its prestigious recognition of excellence in film and television.

Dizon plays a distinct role in the movie directed by one of Japan’s leading filmmakers Rusyuke Hamaguchi as a reimagined and reinvented character in Russian award-winning playwright’s Anton Chekhov’s “Uncle Vanya.”

It’s a pride for the Philippines to have another Filipino actor pitting talents with the world’s other important screen thespian.

In 2021, “Drive My Car” also won at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival.

It is also an apparent shoo-in at the 94th Oscars of the American Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in March as it is one of the entries to the International Feature Film category.

Perry got the role when the production company Janus Films coordinated with Filipina talent master Kristin Kintana looking for a Filipino actor to act with Jap stars.

This time, the Filipino thespian would speak in Filipino tongue and it was a welcome treat for Dizon. He had to read lines with proper intonation and inflection relevant to the whole narrative.

Dizon passed it with flying colors.

The 2022 Golden Globes were handed in at the time of Perry’s birthday.

It was indeed a precious birthday gift for him being in the ensemble of a winning film.

In an interview with Dizon, he underscored the feeling of an actor of any race who was part of a significant film for the world to offer.

“For us creatives, our endeavors and pursuance to our field of choice is a never-ending quest and learning for refinement. You are somehow vindicated to have chosen being an actor as a profession, but it doesn't stop from the praises and applause. We have to move on to the next film assignment or project that come along the way. And I think as actors get older, the chances of playing different ranges are an awesome job in perfecting a pursuit. I just don't know about movie stars who don't want to get old.”
