It’s not only in films and other visual forms that the tragedy of Tacloban City during the onslaught of the super typhoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan) eight years ago are memorialized.
Despite the still raging COVID-19 pandemic, not only the whole nation but particularly Region 8 and Tacloban City itself annually observe the unforgettable disaster and its enormous effects on society.
This year, an in-person commemoration was held at the heart of ground zero to pay homage to the lost souls and the bravest victims of the tragedy.
According to actress Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez, there was a solemn gathering to mark the eighth year of the catastrophe.
“Candle lighting today Nov 7 at the Yolanda Shipwreck memorial Anibong. After a mass which was presided by Fr. Tony Mora,” Cristina, better known as Kring Kring noted in her social media territories on that particular day.
Gonzales-Romualdez attended the mass with her husband, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez.
Kring Kring came from Manila to share the momentous event not only with her better half but also with the Taclobanons in remembering the sacrifices and bravery of her kababayans during the fall.
The occasion also served as a reunion before the public—including the cyber population—of Alfred and Cristina who were rumored to have severed their marriage but proof of otherwise.
