At least 17 individuals mostly from Metro Manila were intercepted after entering Leyte without proper documents at a checkpoint near the San Juanico Bridge in Tacloban City.

SEVENTEEN individuals from Manila have been stopped by authorities upon entering the province of Leyte for neglecting to follow entry protocols.

Ronnie Cornico, head of the Tacloban City Traffic Operations, Management, Enforcement and Control Office (Tomeco), the apprehended individuals were intercepted on board buses and vans that were stopped at a checkpoint near the San Juanico Bridge.

Cornico added that the culprits failed to coordinate with their respective local government units and lacked the necessary documents required by the province.

For safety precautions, the suspects were placed in quarantine facilities while the city government is readying charges against them.

Starting this week, the Tomeco, along with the Tacloban City Police Office and the Tacloban City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), have been conducting checkpoints along Tacloban City’s borders as part of intensified efforts to control the current Covid-19 surge in the province of Leyte.
