More than a simple get-together for Waraynon golfers, the 4th Isang Propesyonal, Isang Pamilya (IPIP) Program Invitational Golf Tournament was able to raise P4.6 million that will be earmarked for the continued education of Eastern Samar’s scholars.

Held last October 15 at the Valley Golf and Country Club in Antipolo City, Rizal, the annual tournament brought together golfers, sponsors, government leaders, and private partners to sustain educational assistance for students and aspiring professionals in Eastern Samar.

Former Eastern Samar Governor and Waray-Waray Golfers Club Inc.chairperson Ben Evardone emphasized his vision of having at least one college graduate in every family who can help improve their household’s economic condition.

“Gusto ko lahat ng pamilya sa Eastern Samar, magkaroon ng college graduate,” Evardone said during the tournament.

Since its launch in 2022, the IPIP program has recorded 2,568 instances of educational assistance benefiting 1,385 unique scholars and examinees.

Of these, 419 have graduated from School Year 2022–2023 to School Year 2025–2026.

The program provides ₱15,000 in assistance per semester, or ₱30,000 annually, to qualified beneficiaries until graduation.

Its reach has expanded from 54 to 69 barangays, extending educational support to more communities across Eastern Samar.

The October 15 tournament achieved its ₱4.6-million fundraising target, reflecting the continued support of the Waray-Waray Golfers Club, sponsors, and other partners for the program’s educational mission.

Meanwhile, Eastern Samar Governor Ralph Vincent ‘RV’ Evardone encouraged tournament participants and other stakeholders to visit Eastern Samar and discover the province’s tourism destinations, local products, and investment opportunities.

“Kaya sana ma-consider ninyo na hindi lang tayo nagkikita-kita dito, kundi, magkita-kita rin po tayo sa probinsya namin,” Evardone said, inviting guests to visit Borongan City and other destinations in the province, whether traveling directly or through Tacloban City.

The tournament also provided an opportunity to showcase Eastern Samar’s local delicacies, including salukara, a traditional rice pancake; chicharukog, or chicharon made from tarukog; and pudpod, a traditional smoked fish patty that reflects the province’s fishing heritage. These local products highlighted Eastern Samar’s distinct food culture and culinary traditions to guests and participants.
