Former Leyte Board Member Atty. Niccolo "Nico" Villasin has succumbed to a heart attack this afternoon, his relatives announced.

FORMER Leyte Board Member and lawyer Niccolo J. Villasin succumbed to a heart attack this afternoon (April 27).

He was 41 years old.

Leyte Board Member Raisa Villasin confirmed her brother’s passing.

According to her, he suffered a heart attack last Friday, April 23.

While still in his late20's Board Member Nico, as he was fondly called by friends and constituents in the 2nd district of Leyte, decided in 2010 to choose public service in the province over a budding and promising lawyering career in Manila.

He was elected in 2010 as a member of the 16th Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Leyte and served until 2019.

Board Member Nico, along with the members of the 17th Sanguniang Panlalawigan in 2013, helped and worked hand in hand with then neophyte Leyte Governor Dominic Petilla during the horrendous aftermath of Super Typhoon Yolanda.

The arduous extended months of emergency, survival, and recovery have become particularly remarkable, if not necessarily haunting, of public service.

Nico had the privilege to become part of the team that would ultimately bring Leyte and its people in unbelievable quick recovery.

Nico may be remembered for his passion in public service and loyalty to political family tradition.

His father, Nestor “Ganggang” Villasin, served as Board Member and Vice Governor of the province.

His sister, former Tacloban City Councilor Raisa Villasin, now sits as Board Member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Leyte.

Atty. Nico is survived by wife Karla and son Rafa. (RM)
