A police trainee has died while four others were hospitalized after participating in a 21-kilometer “graduation run” in Tacloban City.

A police trainee had died while four others were hospitalized after participating in a 21-kilometer traditional “graduation run” held by the PNP Regional Training Center in Tacloban City on Wednesday (June 30).

The victim, identified as PT Kit Adrian Balais, was pronounced dead by attending physicians a few hours after being admitted to the Leyte Provincial Hospital.

Four other police trainees, Alro Melvin Ardivilla, Japhet Sulibaga, Neil John Barcellano and Mark Joseph Petagara , are currently under observation in the same medical facility.

According to a report released by the PNP Regional Training Center in San Jose, Tacloban City, the five police trainees collapsed during the physically strenuous activity, dubbed “Police Trainees Graduation Run,” which was held in the early morning of June 30.

Officials of the Police Training Center in San Jose have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

In the meantime, it is not clear if an investigation on the matter is immediately forthcoming, even as the parents of the victim are hoping to know the real reason for the death of their son.
