Talking about Halloween, engaged couple Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo spent the traditional eve of All Saints’ Day with a memorable act of giving another dimension to the classic work of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” by costuming and living up the image theatrically.

Dennis even quoted his idol painter Bob Ross who he addressed as Tito echoing “I really believe that if you practice enough, you could paint the ‘Mona Lisa’ with a two-inch brush.”

It was fun and meaningful to the soon-to-be husband and wife.

Not only were Jennylyn and Dennis the showbiz people who took to theater however street, improvisational and unconventional ways of celebrating Halloween in many parts of the country, singer and arts technocrat Michelle Junia also went to town to pay homage to the tradition no matter how colonial and remote.

Because even if Michelle—better known in the art scene as Nikki Junia—is far from Tacloban City in Leyte Province, she always thinks of her roots most of the time, especially in performing Halloween treats and remembering her dear departed ancestors at the same time.

In some Hollywood-inspired scary and suspenseful fares and Hallyu-influenced genre visuals like Squid Game, Nikki had dramatized in her creative way in a Manila suburb by playfully frightening people with costumes with kith and kin during the Halloween period.

And oh! The kids who Nikki kept the company in this wonderful event were happy by the many candies and chocolates they garnered during the treat and trick caper during the eve of October 31. She, too, was thrilled to see the small girls winning sweets overflowing from a pumpkin dummy.

It’s already in Nikki’s DNA to love and care for children—bloodline or no bloodline—but most especially her relatives during Halloween just like what happened last week. It’s because Junia is a dear teacher to her dear students at the Musikgarten Manila, a music school for kids and grownups as well.

The world of children fascinates Nikki so much.
