THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) unveiled on Sunday its first Science Centrum Interactive Exhibit in Eastern Visayas.
Designed to be interactive and engaging especially to the students, the centrum is a showcase of various scientific innovations such as “gravity well”, “feel the shake”, “head on a platter”, “pendulum wave”, and “pedal power” among many others.
DOST Regional Director Ernesto Granada said the featured science, technology, and innovations (STI) exhibits will certainly spark interest among young minds.
“The exhibit will spark young minds and inspire them to become more interested in discovering science and appreciate how cool science works.
“It will surely ignite interest in pursuing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, helping us develop a science and technology culture among the youth,” says Granada.
Also featured were thematic interactive exhibits in renewable energy, agriculture, aquaculture sciences, and natural resources.
The opening of the regional science centrum coincided with the regional science and technology week celebration.
Temporary home
The said project is temporarily housed at the Leyte Academic Center in Palo with the provincial government providing the venue.
Granada said the science centrum will be brought to its permanent location at the new provincial capitol building in the municipality of Palo.
The nearly completed state-of-art provincial seat of government of Leyte is tentatively set to be turned over in February next year.
Granada said the project was made possible thru the support of various agencies of government like the Department of Education, Department of Energy, Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Leyte Normal University, Eastern Visayas State University, and University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College.
