Davaoneo artist scores virtual showing of Mt. Apo at 2021 Cinemalaya

IN the special screening of four never-before-seen films in the 17th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival currently showing at ktx.ph, one of the exciting and interesting entries to the “Premieres” section is the digital performance of the film “Highest Peak” directed by award-winning movie artist Arnel Barbarona.

Premiering on August 7 to 14, “Highest Peak” tells about a man who follows through with his family’s plan to climb the highest mountain peak in the Philippines after he lost his wife and son. A journey of redemption, closure and healing. The film was shot predominantly in Mt. Apo.

The film stars Dax Alejandro, Mara Lopez, Henyo Ehem, Rowena Caballes, Jea Lyka Cinco, Johnny Hager, Buggy Amplayo, Jun Alcover, Bong Artil and Ferdinand Mesias.

Davao-born director Arbi Barbarona is known for his films focused on indigenous peoples of Mindanao, including his debut feature film “Tu Pug Imatuy”, which won several awards at various film festivals.

Other notable screeners in the “Premieres” are drama “He Who Is Without Sin” (on August 15 to 21) by director Jason Paul Laxamana; noir film “Love and Pain In Between Refrains” (on August 22 to 28) by director Joselito Altarejos and social monologue “Tao Po” (on September 3) by Mae Paner aka Juana Change.
