Hollywood action hero Bruce Lee might be gone but his memories live on. One of the recorders of his past and appreciators of his achievements is Filipino action star Vic Tiro.
Vic, a native of Cebu and a veteran of many action screen adventures, is one of a few living memories of Bruce Lee.
The other remembrances of the Hong Kong superstar are Rey Malonzo and Levy Ignacio.
But Rey has been inactive to pursue the Bruce Lee tradition while Levy has opted to become a dramatic actor while doing action scenes once in a while.
In the Philippines, Bruce Lee impersonators and other martial artists have gone to the great beyond.
Ramon Zamora, Robert Lee, Roberto Gonzales, among others, are already immortalized in the genre of mixed martial arts.
It's Cebuano Vic Tiro who has maintained the Bruce Lee influences after all these years.
It's Ramon who first christened Vic Bruce of the Philippines.
"Ikaw ang pinakabagong Bruce Lee ng Pilipinas.' 'Yan ang sabi ni Mang Ramon sa akin. Siya ang kauna-unahang tumawag sa akin ng Bruce Lee if the Philippines, ikalawa, si ("You are the new Bruce Lee of the Philippines.' That was said to me by Mang Ramon. He's the very first one who called me Bruce Lee of the Philippines. The second one was) Robin Padilla," recalled Tiro.
