Fair compensation for artists is not only the right thing to do, but it is also crucial to preserving the cultural richness and diversity of Eastern Visayas.

For years, artists in Eastern Visayas have consistently been underpaid and uncompensated for their hard work and creativity.

Despite the region's rich culture and vibrant arts scene, many artists struggle to make ends meet due to unfair payment practices.

The problem is especially prevalent in the field of traditional arts, where skilled artisans and weavers often receive barely enough to cover their materials and overhead costs. The intricate designs and techniques required in traditional crafts take years of practice and dedication to master, yet many artists are forced to sell their work for a fraction of its true value.

Even contemporary artists and performers are not immune to this issue. Many are hired for events and showcases with little or no compensation, relying on exposure and recognition to compensate for their time and effort. While exposure can be valuable, it does not pay the bills or provide the necessary support to continue creating.

Deprivation of appropriate compensation for artists from Eastern Visayas not only limits their ability to sustain themselves financially, but it also puts the region's cultural heritage at risk. Younger generations may not see traditional arts and crafts as viable career options if they see how their predecessors are struggling to make a living.

The government and private sectors need to recognize the importance of supporting the arts and invest in compensating artists fairly for their work. Compensation may not be outright cash. This can come in the form of grants, hosting art and craft fairs and increasing opportunities for artists to showcase their talents.

The idea of implementing a standardized rate will also provide a sort of stability or an anchor for struggling artists whose works are being haggled either because they have not made a name in the nation or even regional art scene or simply because the client thinks the project is "too easy" for its price.

Fair compensation for artists is not only the right thing to do, but it is also crucial to preserving the cultural richness and diversity of Eastern Visayas.
