I never thought I’d actually sell my car, but after everything I’ve been through, I knew it was the right move. Honestly, my car used to be a great way to get around easily. It gave me freedom—no waiting for buses, no worrying about timing, and I could go wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted. But things have changed, and not for the better.
Lately, traffic jams have become unbearable. I remember days when I’d hit a little traffic, but now, it feels like I spend hours stuck in gridlock. Sitting in that traffic makes me tired and frustrated. It’s not just annoying—it's draining. And then there’s the rising gas prices. Every week, it seems like the cost to fill up my tank goes higher. At one point, I realized that driving was turning into a luxury I couldn’t really afford anymore. Parking is another headache. Finding a parking spot in the city is like winning the lottery some days. I’d drive around for what felt like forever just to find a spot, and that only added to my stress.
But what really pushed me over the edge was the weather. Heavy rain and storms make driving increasingly risky. Roads flood, visibility drops, and I worry about accidents or getting stuck. Some time back, I found myself caught in a sudden storm, and it was incredibly frightening.
I had to slow down, drive carefully, and worry about hydroplaning. On a rainy day, I parked my car near a restaurant where I was planning to eat. When I came back a few hours later, I found floodwaters had entered my vehicle.
It made me realize that relying on my car isn’t practical anymore, especially with unpredictable weather.
So, I decided to try something different. I started using public transportation more often, like the MRT. Honestly, it’s been a game-changer. The MRT is usually faster than sitting in traffic, and I don’t have to worry about parking or gas. Plus, I get to relax during the ride—read a book, listen to music, or just enjoy the scenery outside the window. I’ve also started walking short distances, which is surprisingly refreshing. It’s healthier, cheaper, and I get a little exercise, which I’d been neglecting.
Now, if I ever decide to buy a new car, it will have to be something really special—an amphibious car. Yes, I’m serious! I’ve read about vehicles like BYD’s amphibious SUV, which can drive on roads and then transform into a boat to handle floods or rough waters. Imagine not having to worry about weather conditions anymore—just switch from driving to floating and keep going. It sounds like something out of a science fiction movie, but it’s a dream I’d love to see come true someday.
For now, I’m happy with my decision to let go of my traditional car. Embracing a simpler, less stressful way to get around has made my life easier. I feel less anxious, more relaxed, and I’m saving money too. Sometimes, letting go of what we think we need is the best step forward. Who knows? Maybe someday I’ll have that amphibious vehicle, but until then, I’m enjoying the freedom that comes with a lighter, simpler lifestyle.
