THAT, for all intents and purposes, appears to be so for familia de Collantes is going in the near future.

The matriarch (Congw. Theresa V. Collantes) is right now the Representative for District 3 here in Batangas and will be seeking a second term, even as the patriarch, former congressman Sonny Collantes, is gunning for mayor of Tanauan City.

As is the case elsewhere, when the wife or husband reaches the mandated three-term limit, he or she will step aside and let the husband or wife or son/daughter stand as a candidate, get elected, and keep their lofty perch on top of the social order.

But sometimes, the urge to broaden one's "kingdom" is simply overpowering.

We have nothing against this for we are in a democracy. To each his own. And they could be all over Batangas' District 3 if their Consla Party-List also makes the cut this time around.

And timing is everything.

Talk is ripe incumbent Tanauan Mayor Angeline "Sweet" Halili, who inherited the throne from former mayor and father Thony who was assassinated in July 2018, won't be seeking re-election.

A source working at the new city hall of Tanauan claimed that Mayor Sweet's elder brother, a neophyte, will try to pick it up from where his sister will leave off in 2022.

Whatever, this makes them a vulnerable lot for an opponent in the person former congressman and academician whose political experience spans three consecutive terms as D3 Representative of Batangas among others.

In Wednesday's (21 April 2021) noontime caucus at the Tanauan Institute, which the Collanteses own, it was overheard from the PA his running mate will be no other than Board Member Jhoanna Corona.

Nice choice, I would say.

But I won't be surprised if Sweet Halili's running-mate and incumbent vice mayor Jun Trinidad would also throw his hat into the mayoralty arena for 2022.

Another option for him is, seek reelection as running mate anew of Mayor Sweet Halili's brother. Email ismaelamigo@yahoo.com.
