I am genuinely glad to see how sports today have evolved to include specialized programs that help athletes and coaches grow—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Whether in college, amateur, or professional leagues, I notice that many successful teams now employ sports psychologists. These professionals help athletes overcome mental barriers, build resilience, and develop winning mindsets. It’s inspiring to see how their expertise can turn a good team into a championship-winning one.
People often ask me if I am a sports psychologist because I coach some athletes myself. I politely tell them no, I am not. To be considered a sports psychologist, one must have a master's degree and a PhD in psychology. I chose to study psychology because I was curious about human behavior and the mind. But I’ve come to realize that true psychology is more than just understanding behavior; it’s about understanding the human soul. To me, the real meaning of psychology is the study of the soul—the essence of who we are.
My journey into spirituality changed my perspective profoundly. I learned that our spirit is the divine presence within us—what some call God. Our soul, on the other hand, is aware that it is spirit living inside a physical body. This understanding made me see that we are not just limited beings, but creators—powerful, limitless, and super beings. When I discovered that we are spiritual entities having a human experience, everything changed for me. It was like unlocking a new level of awareness about our true nature and potential.
To explore these ideas further, I enrolled in an online course from Sta. Monica University called "Loyalty To Your Soul." This course dives deep into Spiritual Psychology, teaching us about our divine nature and how to connect with it. It has been an eye-opening experience that reinforces my belief that understanding our soul is the key to living a fulfilled, meaningful life. The course has helped me see that we are not just physical beings, but spiritual beings having a temporary human journey.
At its core, Spiritual Psychology teaches us that we are not just human beings with souls. Instead, we are souls having a human experience. This shift in perspective helps us see life differently. Instead of feeling limited by our circumstances or physical bodies, we realize that our true essence is love—the same love that is the nature of God. When we embrace this truth, we open ourselves to a deeper connection with the universe and with each other.
Many people, including myself, find that traditional religious beliefs can sometimes feel restrictive or incomplete. They may not always answer our deepest questions or support our spiritual growth. I experienced this firsthand and eventually let go of dogmas that no longer resonated with me. In my search for spiritual truth, I realized that the answers I was seeking were already within me. This was a turning point—an awakening that brought me more happiness and a sense of fulfillment I had never known before.
From this newfound understanding, I created a course called "Kamalayan Mindset of Champions." I teach my students that our consciousness is that of a super being. When they grasp this idea, they become fearless, confident, and empowered. I believe that knowing who we truly are—divine, limitless, and powerful—can transform lives, especially in sports and beyond. It’s about awakening the champion within us all.
